The 公民参与 program seeks to promote a culture of social responsibility and community-engaged学习. To that end, the 公民参与 program includes Academic 以社区为基础的学习, Community Service Leadership, Volunteer Service Awards, 和投票倡议.

Our mission is to enhance your 教育al experience by engaging you in hands-on learning through 以社区为基础的学习 courses while getting you involved with 并帮助当地社区. 给 back to the community is not just a social service; it is a learning experience and a valuable part of connecting to your college 教育. 

Benefits of Community-Based Courses 

• Increase understanding of class topics through Community-Engaged Learning

• Develop personal and professional skills, especially in the areas of communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership
• Expand understanding of diverse cultures and communities

The 公民参与 program values all service to the community and wants to recognize you for all that you do in making positive social change. 正在表演的学生 社区服务可以:

Be recognized as a Community Service Leader. 学生 receiving this distinction will be awarded the Red Leadership Cord and will be publicly recognized at their graduation 仪式. 学生 will be recognized as Community Service Leaders if they complete:

• 200 or more hours of community service as an individual within the calendar year outlined in the President’s Volunteer Service Award application.
• A Leadership Project designed to meet a community need. 学生必须带领一个小组 of at least 3 of their peers in this project.
• 4 or more 以社区为基础的学习 courses during their time at the College

教师

公民参与 at 新利18社区学院 works with our faculty to develop, enhance, or sustain 以社区为基础的学习 in their classrooms. 以社区为基础的学习 is simply a way of teaching and learning and is open to faculty of any discipline! 

Our office has many established relationships on-campus and with organizations in the local communities at each of our campus locations and is able to help you align your 以社区为基础的学习 projects with the needs expressed by our partners.
